Sgn. Lower left, Ridgway Knight, Paris. O/C. M. Knoedler & Co., Paris/NY (#10430), Feb. 5 1904 to Mr. A. Schrieber, Buffalo, NY, November, 27, 1912. Anthony Schreiber Estate, Buffalo, NY. Anthony Schreiber (1864-1938), was born in Poland and emigrated to the U.S. at age 17, where he quickly assimilated to American customs. In 1899 he moved to Buffalo, NY and founded the A. Schreiber Brewing Company. The brewery was considered one of the most modern in the U.S., using electricity and duplicating equipment in case of an accident. By the time of his death, Schreiber had become one of the most prominent Polish-Americans in the U.S. He was responsible for the establishment of libraries, singing societies, educational facilities and other organizations dedicated to the preservation of Polish culture in the U.S. He was an industrial leader and a man of an exceptionally wide range of activities including business, civic, and social pursuits.
