She was the daughter and daughter-in-law of Western Union co-founders Hiram Sibley & Don Alonzo Watson. Emily was fortunate enough to sail the world with her husband, James Sibley Watson, and amass an extensive collection of art. Emily established the Memorial Art Gallery after the passing of her first son, James G. Averill. Several remaining pieces were passed on to her second son, James Sibley Watson, Jr. and his wife. They continued to add to their collection of art, some of which is represented here.
