Catalogue Note: Its rough surface textures resemble the decomposed surfaces of Roman glass buried for centuries. The pitted surface of “Cypriote” glass nay have been based on seventeenth-century Venetian vetro ghiaccio (ice glass). Similar examples were displayed in the Exhibition of l’Art Nouveau: Siegfried Bing, Paris, Grafton Galleries, London, 1899. A nearly identical example was acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1901.
