Harriet Whitney Frishmuth (American, 1880-1980)
Harriet Whitney Frishmuth was an American sculptor celebrated for her graceful bronze depictions of female figures and dancers. Born in Philadelphia, she studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the Art Students League of New York, drawing inspiration from masters such as Auguste Rodin and Hermon Atkins MacNeil. Frishmuth earned numerous honors, including the St. Gaudens Medal and awards from the National Academy of Design, and her works are housed in major institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Later in life, she lived in Connecticut with her partner Ruth, where she continued to embody a spirit of creativity and resilience until her passing in 1980.
