Details:

Burr H. Nicholls (American, 1848-1915)
Burr Halliday Nicholls was an American painter known for his landscapes, Venetian scenes, genre works, and depictions of rural life. Born in Lockport, New York, he began his artistic training in Buffalo with Lars Gustaf Sellstedt and later studied in Paris under Carolus-Duran, alongside fellow artist Frank C. Penfold. Nicholls was active in the artists' colony at Pont-Aven in Brittany and gained recognition for his paintings of the Breton countryside and Venetian architecture. He exhibited widely, including at the Paris Salon, National Academy of Design, and the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo. Though he spent much of his career in Europe, Nicholls remained connected to the American art scene through memberships in organizations like the Buffalo Society of Artists and the Bohemian Sketch Club.
