Details:

Frank A. Barney (American, 1862-1954)
Frank Adelaide Barney was an American painter recognized for his prolific career and deep ties to the Finger Lakes region of New York. Born in Union Springs, he studied at the Art Students League in New York City and later with William Merritt Post in Connecticut before traveling to Paris in 1895 to paint in Barbizon and continue his studies throughout France and England. Barney settled permanently in Auburn, New York, in 1907, but maintained active connections with artists in New York City and Connecticut. A member of the Salmagundi Club from 1897, he exhibited widely at major venues including the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Society of Independent Artists, as well as museums and galleries across the United States. Known as the “Dean of Auburn Artists,” Barney created more than 3,000 works over his lifetime and is listed among WPA artists. His paintings are held in collections such as the Syracuse Museum of Fine Art and the Binghamton Museum of Art.
