Details:

John J. Inglis (American/Irish, 1867-1046)
John Johnston Inglis was an Irish American painter known for his seasonal landscapes and marine scenes. Born in Dublin in 1867, he studied at the Dublin Academy and later at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jean-Leon Gerome. He also trained at the Academie Colarossi with Raphael Collin and Gustave Courtois. Inglis eventually settled in Rochester, New York, where he became an influential figure in the local art community, serving as president of the Rochester Art Club and teaching at the School of the Mechanics Institute. His style, rooted in academic tradition, also incorporated elements of Impressionism. He received several awards, including a gold medal at the 1925 Rochester Industrial Exposition and a silver medal five years later. His work is represented in the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester.
