Details:

Frank F. English (American, 1854-1922)
Frank F. English was an American painter celebrated for his genre scenes, rural landscapes, and marine subjects, working primarily in watercolor with additional oil and pastel compositions. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he studied under Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and exhibited there regularly between 1881 and 1903 while supporting himself as a commercial artist in Claymont, Delaware. In 1905, English traveled through England and Holland before settling in Point Pleasant, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he lived until his death. Best known for his delicately rendered watercolors accented with gouache, he captured bucolic scenes of everyday rural life – cider making, grazing cattle, harvesting, and horse-drawn carriages – preserving the character of a landscape on the brink of modern change.
