Details:

Julian Stanczak (American/Polish, 1928-2017)
Julian Stanczak was a Polish-born American painter and a leading figure of the Op Art movement, celebrated for his vibrant, color-driven optical effects. After surviving a Siberian labor camp during World War II that permanently disabled his right arm, he taught himself to paint with his left hand. Stanczak studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and earned his MFA from Yale University, where he trained under Josef Albers and Conrad Marca Relli. His work, characterized by precise geometric forms and layered transparencies, brought the structures of color to life and influenced generations of abstract artists. Stanczak’s paintings are held in major collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
