Details:
Angelo Savelli (Italian, 1911-1995)
Angelo Savelli was an Italian painter known for abstract, figurative, landscape, and cityscape works. Born in Pizzo Calabro, Italy, his early interest in art was encouraged by his uncle, the self-taught painter Alfonso Barone. In 1930 he moved to Rome to pursue formal training, studying at an arts-focused high school and later at the Academy of Fine Arts, with support from his family and connections to the Italian cultural establishment. Savelli earned a pilot’s license in 1934, which helped fund his studies, and soon after received notable recognition, including the Mattia Preti and Balestra awards from the Accademia di San Luca. He died in 1995 at Boldeniga Castle in Brescia, Italy.
