Paul Evans (American, 1931-1987)
Paul Evans was a furniture designer and sculptor celebrated for bold, handcrafted tables and cabinets that merged sculpture with functional design. Born in Newtown, Pennsylvania, he studied at institutions including Cranbrook Academy of Art and later developed a distinctive metal-based practice in New Hope before designing the influential Argente and Cityscapes lines for Directional Furniture. Evans opened a New York showroom in 1981 and remained a leading figure in the American Craft movement until his death in 1987.
