Eugene E. Speicher (American, 1883-1962)
Eugene E. Speicher was an American realist painter celebrated for portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, and regarded as one of the leading realists of his generation. Born in Buffalo, he studied at the Albright Art School before continuing at the Art Students League of New York under Robert Henri, whose emphasis on direct observation and psychological intensity deeply shaped his work. Speicher later became closely associated with the Woodstock artists’ colony, where much of his mature career developed, securing his place within American realism.
