Details:
Aristide Maillol (French, 1861-1944)
Aristide Maillol was a French sculptor, painter, and tapestry designer renowned for monumental female nudes that reinterpreted Classical Greek ideals through simplified, self-contained forms. Born in Banyuls-sur-Mer, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was influenced by Paul Gauguin and the Nabis before turning fully to sculpture around 1900 and achieving international acclaim through major public commissions. His restrained, timeless style profoundly shaped later Modernists such as Constantin Brancusi and Henry Moore, and his works remain in major museum collections worldwide.
