Mid-19th century. Brass and marble. 8-day time and strike.
Maker: Evans & Sons, Handsworth.
Description: The 8-day single fusee movement has three elaborately pierced plates in the Arabesque pattern, 7 turned and screwed posts, well-cut 6-spoke wheelwork, an anchor escapement with a shaped anchor and a passing strike. The pendulum is an Evans compensating pendulum with a brass and wood rod and cylindrical bob. The whole sits on a white marble base and is covered by a dome.
Dial: The elaborately engraved and fretted silvered dial has Roman numerals for the hours and large Evan's steel-cut hands. Below is the silvered and engraved name plaque signed 'Evans & Sons, Handsworth'.
Notes: Evans of Handsworth were one of the most prolific makers of exceptional quality skeleton clocks.
