Renaissance Revival Carved Curule (Savonarola) Chair

Circa 1900. Carved wood. X-frame construction with scrolling arms terminating in carved female heads at the upper terminals, the broad horizontal crest rail elaborately carved with a central grotesque mask ('green man') flanked by acanthus scrolls and shells, with a floral upholstered loose cushion over a lyre-form X-stretcher centered with a carved cartouche, on paw feet.
