Roy Lichtenstein was an American artist and a leading figure in the Pop Art movement. He became known for large-scale paintings and prints inspired by commercial art, comic strips, and popular culture, often using Ben-Day dots to imitate mechanical printing techniques. After studying at the Art Students League of New York and Ohio State University, Lichtenstein developed his distinctive style while teaching and becoming involved in the New York art scene. His works, including Drowning Girl (1963), explored irony, cliches, and everyday imagery while transforming them into bold, monumental compositions.
