Edouard Leon Cortes (French, 1882-1969)
Edouard Leon Cortes was a French painter celebrated for his idealized, Impressionistic scenes of Parisian streets and the French countryside. Born in Lagny-sur-Marne, he was the son of Spanish court painter Antonio Cortes Cordero and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Cortes became especially known for capturing the atmosphere and charm of Paris during its celebrated “City of Lights” era. His work earned a Silver Medal from the Societe des Artistes Francais and a Gold Medal at the Salon des Independants in 1915. Today, his paintings are held primarily in private collections throughout Europe and North America.
