Details:
Paul Louis Bouchard (French, 1853-1937)
Paul Louis Bouchard was a Paris-born painter who studied under distinguished academic artists Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger, developing a refined practice encompassing landscape, historical subjects, and figure scenes. Widely traveled and recognized for his Orientalist and Russian-themed compositions, Bouchard became particularly celebrated for atmospheric views of the Kremlin, Strastnoy Monastery, and Red Square in winter, as well as richly detailed scenes inspired by the European Middle Ages. His artistic distinction was formally recognized with his appointment as a Knight of the Legion of Honor, and his mature works remain notable for their accomplished draftsmanship, evocative settings, and academic finish.
